We believe that protecting our precious water resources starts in the heart of our community: our schools. We’re not just here to supply your water; we want to work side-by-side with you to inspire the next generation and make every drop count.

By joining forces, we can help your school reduce its footprint, save on costs, and empower your students with the knowledge to become lifelong water guardians.

School visits and talks

Tom, South East Water Education Lead, delivers a school talk

We’re inspiring the next generation of water heroes through our school talks. Packed with interactive activities, these curriculum-linked sessions introduce students to the 'world of water', exploring exactly where our tap water comes from and how it is treated. Children learn the vital value of saving water, taking home fun activity packs and a four-minute shower challenge to try out with their families.

Book a Flow Zone visit

A group of school students visit South East Water's Bewl water treatment works in Kent

We have partnered with Sutton East Surrey (SES) Water to provide children the opportunity to visit their Flow Zone. This is an interactive space where children can get a 'behind the scenes' look at a water treatment works to discover how water is made safe to drink and discover ways they can support the environment through making sensible choices with their water use.

The opportunity is available, free of charge, to all schools (Key Stage 2 and above) in our supply area. To ensure everyone has the opportunity to participate, we have secured funding to support schools who serve communities who are disadvantaged (note: dependent on availability).

AquaSmart

Students pose with their AquaSmart activities after a session

We’ve designed AquaSmart to make learning about the environment an adventure. This interactive programme is aimed at Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 and is filled with missions and games that turn water saving into a challenge they’ll love.

When your students become ‘water ambassadors,’ they don’t just learn - they lead and take their new habits home. To celebrate your school’s commitment, every participating child receives a certificate, and we’ll provide your school with a water butt to help their outdoor spaces thrive.

Book a water-saving visit

We want to make saving water as easy as possible for you. That’s why we offer free, hands-on water-saving visits specifically for schools in partnership with a delivery partner.

One of our expert engineers will visit your site to act as a ‘fresh set of eyes’. We’ll assess your fittings, fix minor leaks on the spot, and install water-saving devices - all at no cost to you! It’s a simple, collaborative way to lower your bills and boost your sustainability credentials.

Building a water-smart school, together

Resilience is a team effort. With a changing climate bringing unpredictable weather, we want to help your school stay one step ahead of the summer heat and winter freezes. Our school education programme doesn't just stop in the classroom. Here are five easy steps your school can take to become water-resilient today:

  • Create a ‘leak detective’ culture: Hidden leaks account for a massive 70 per cent of school water loss. By encouraging staff and pupils to spot and report dripping taps or damp patches early, you can stop water waste in its tracks.
  • Harvest the rain: Turn rainfall into a free resource! Installing water butts around your school buildings gives you a backup, weather-proof water supply to keep your gardens and green spaces green.
  • Winter-proof your pipes: Don't let a hard frost catch you off guard. Wrapping exposed outdoor pipes (lagging) and shutting off external taps before winter arrives prevents costly bursts and school-closure disruptions.
  • Create a student water patrol: Empower your students! Appointing student ‘water ambassadors’ to check taps after break times gives them real-world responsibility for their environment and builds lifelong saving habits.
  • Install tap aerators: Small changes, big impact. Retrofitting school basins with tap aerators or push-top taps cuts water flow significantly without losing pressure - saving both water and money!
